Malin Malineanu, Development Coordinator of Best Western Romania, stated that the number of applications for affiliation received from hotels by the end of 2008 and the first semester of 2009 is higher, compared to 2007-2008.
The explanation is that, during crisis period, hotel owners choose affiliation to an international hotel chain to increase competitivity, visibility and credibility.
Malineanu stated that Best Western chain will complete two affiliations by the end of 2009, one in Iasi and the other in Botosani.
Best Western Hotels strategy is to continue the development process, affiliating at least one hotel per year. Also, the chain is still interested in Valea Prahovei and Brasov regions.
Malineanu estimates that the hotel market will register a 40% decline by the end of the present year, a trend to be continued in 2010, as well.
Last year, 13 hotels affiliated to Best Western have reported businesses of EUR 12 mil., 25% below the initial estimates.
