Apuseni Natural Park will be awarded on October 8 within EDEN 2009 Awards Festivity as Romanian destination of excellence, together with 21 other European destinations. EDEN destinations are selected following the national competition, held by the tourism authority in each country participating to the project, based on the theme and the general participation criteria, established every year at European level. 12 protected areas in Romania competed. The European Commission will make a presentation film for Apuseni Natural Park which will be cast on premiere within the Award Ceremony. At the same time, Apuseni Natural will be promoted on EDEN official website on its own page and will be included in the European Destinations of Excellence Network, which facilitates experience changes for a sustainable development. “European Destinations of Excellence”, EDEN project, was launched by the Tourism Division of the European Commission and envisages major objectives of European policy in tourism – sustainability, decongestion of traditional destinations, reducing seasonality, redirecting tourists towards non-traditional destinations, creating networks between stakeholders in tourism sector.
