According to a GfK international survey on European and American citizens’ behavior related to holidays and trips, more than a third of the respondents worldwide are willing to spend maximum EUR 1,000 per person for holidays in 2010, while 21% of them will not spend more than EUR 500.
Approximately a quarter of the Romanians participating in this survey can afford a EUR 1,000 budget for a holiday this year, while 16% spend less than EUR 500 for a holiday.
Two thirds of the respondents stated that they would rather spend the vacation in their country. Therefore, 70% of the Portuguese, 66% of the Italians and Spaniards and 60% of Frenchmen stated that they choose as holiday destination their own country. At the same time, 76% of the Polish spend their holidays in their country, Hungarians choose domestic destination up to 71%, Americans up to 80%, while Turks about 95%.
42% of the Romanians stated that they spend holidays in their country.
About 40% of the worldwide respondents stated that they do not use to travel during their spare time. In Central Europe, 61% of the respondents stated that they do not travel during their spare time, while in Western Europe countries, 37% of the respondents do not travel.
The most dedicated travelers are Swedish people - 87%, Dutch - 85% and Belgians - 77%, while Bulgarians and Romanians are spending most spare time at home - 71% and 70%, respectively. In most countries surveys, young people are those traveling the most, with the exception of Germany, the only country where there is no difference between young and elders, related to this aspect. In the USA and Great Britain, elder persons travel more.
Among the activities during a holiday, Europeans choose more often to visit their relatives, doing sport or have fun in bars and clubs.
The global research of GfK on holidays was carried out this spring on a sample of 16,364 individuals over 15 years in 16 European countries and the United States.
