Romania has 16 airports of which four, respectively Henri Coanda, Baneasa, Timisoara and Constanta, have as main shareholder the Romanian state, while the local councils administrate the other 12.
Daniel Achim, Manager of Airports and Airline Traffic within the Ministry of Transport (MT), stated that the ministry allocated EUR 111 mil. to Henri Coanda Bucharest International Airport for modernizing works, of which EUR 76 mil. were supported by commercial credit and own sources. Other EUR 35 mil. came from the state budget.
Achim stated that many airports need investments evaluated at EUR 1.28 bn.
The officials forecast 20 mil. passengers traffic until 2018. More, the strategic program for airport infrastructure development needs an investment of EUR 500 mil.
